To be honest, I don't think that's a likely situation as well. According to what you have typed, the China Airlines representatives told your friend they may drop Taipei - Anchorage v.v., if they are seriously considering to drop the route to the extent that they are telling their customers about it while zeroing out the bank, scenario 2 and 3 are actually in the higher state of occurring.

EVA has not yet replaced all their routes with 77W yet (which there are still some waiting for arrival), don't think they have extra aircraft to shell out. Also, if we are talking about a wet lease, then no... since the seating configuration for both sides are totally different.
