I don't know how these rumors get started. I can assure you the new video is not being removed or edited for time. The video has received overwhelmingly positive feedback and it'is actually up for several awards.
The pilots would NEVER have to wait for the safety video. In fact, it's usually played during pushback/taxi. And if the video wasn't available for some reason, the F/As would do a manual demo.

I was talking with the lead F/A on my flight yesterday about the current safety video and the rumor it is being removed. He said it has garnered a lot of attention and that the video is going to be shortened. He says it runs too long and the pilots have to wait to take off sometimes.
I hope they just keep the video with some good editing. I know of a few places in the video that can be removed without taking away from the safety or "spirit" of the video.
