Plenty of time in between flights (hopefully) but won't be in possession of the SQ boarding pass. Can I obtain one at a trasfer desk, or do I need to exit immigration/custom and check-in there?

Internet Check In for your SQ flight up to 48 hours in advance and print your own boarding pass.
However, SQ is one of those airlines that the left hand does not trust the right hand and still requires you to report to the SQ counter at the airport even if you have completed the Internet Check In and printed the boarding pass. Not sure if this will help you.
The last time I used Internet Check In, I still had to queue up at the SQ check-in counter so that the agent could take a look at my printed boarding pass and put a chop on it to show that it had been checked. Quite silly.
BTW the SQ check-in agent also demanded to see the credit card that I used to pay for the air ticket. I have never been treated like this as a criminal before and I was (still am) a *Gold level flyer.
