Accessing Star Alliance lounges on a UA 1P

According to United's information on Premier Executive rewards, it mentions that 1P members have access to the Star Alliance lounges around the world, regardless of class of service if you're traveling on a same-day international ticket. Does this mean that you can visit any Star lounges (e.g. "lounge hopping" for lack of a better word) at SFO, NRT, SIN, etc. more than once, or are you just confined to one airline [the RCC for UA, in this case] or partner lounge? I recall reading some threads where the partner charges the airline a certain recriprocity fee for each member's access.

My fiancée and I will be flying out of IAD next Thursday and we'll be passing through SFO and NRT, on Y class (I'm keeping my fingers crossed that our domestic upgrades will clear!)

For those of you who are regular lounge'ers (is that a valid word? ), any recommendations as to which non-United lounge to visit at IAD, SFO, NRT, and SIN if permissible? To date, the only lounges that we've been to are the RCC's at IAD, SFO and NRT. In SIN, I believe it was the SATS-lounge.

Regards,
David
