They would probably say you are out of luck if you are not a Plat or Gold (even if you are they would be doing you a favor to re-accommodate as it is not an obligation for them to do so). Having said that, you can have the itineraries linked I believe. That will not get you the same "protection" as a single ticket but at least they would know you are connecting.
