Yep, it kind of stinks. I've flown on AZ planes where the middle seat must have been at least 20" wide. Of course, the plane was dirty, food was inedible, and service was non-existent, but the seats were incredibly roomy.
Personally, I have no preference for Boeing or Airbus, generally. All else being equal, there are some Boeing I prefer over Airbus and vice versa (coach on the A330/340 over the 777, or Upper Deck J on the 747 over J on an A330, for example). Among the narrow-body planes, though, I fail to understand what all the fuss is about.
