I know it is a bit of a personal thing but, at what point would you choose to do a year-end MR rather than burn the flex miles?

I have 13k flex and will come shy of gold by about 4,000 at year end. I am toying with actually trying to find a cheap flight to actually earn the EQMs and save the Flex for a "rainy day fund". Or is that just my own neurosis and hording dringing me to more psychopatholigical flying?

Yes, the flex miles value is somewhat personal, but you can get 4000 EQMs out of CLE with one quick turn in anywhere in California, currently about $300. So 4000 EQMs would be worh ~$300 plus time spent flying (which is really the expensive part.)
