When flying home from SFO the day before yesterday I had also a paper shopping bag from Abercrombie with 4 kids sweaters to carry. To minimize hand-luggage I placed the bag in a zipper compartment on the outside of my checked suitcase. The whole suitcase was unlocked because it has no TSA compliant locks but only zippers.

After I finally arrived in VIE yesterday night more than 3 hours late (having been rebooked to MUC-FRA-VIE after MUC-VIE has been cancelled for technical reasons) I just went home and had no more nerves to unpack my luggage. Today I opened the outer zipper compartment and the bag was gone!

I went back to the airport today in the evening to complain, but all what they would do was to formally take note of the case "for my private insurance" - the say there is no liability at all for the airline.

Any of you had any similar experience? Will LH (all flights were LH metal) have to do anything to cover the approx. USD 120,- loss?
