This question comes up regularly, but in the 6-7 years I have been following this forum, I don't recall a single post where anyone has claimed to have been requested to pay a renewal fee. I have been Gold for over 10 years, and have had busy periods with Hertz, along with 2-3 year stretches with no rentals, and have never been asked to pay a fee.
