Urgent: Orbitz changes AC-coded / UA-operated flight???

I know this is not the right forum, but I ask the flight experts on here as I know you are the most experienced, and we are in a desperate situation!

So, we booked a package on Orbitz from YEG to SAN. I get a voicemail 2 hours ago from Orbitz saying that United has changed their flight time, and we will not be able to make our connecting flight at SFO, so thus they have changed our flight. Our original flight was at 5:45 PM on United Airlines and they tell us they have switched us to a 12:57 PM flight on an Air Canada flight.

This is COMPLETELY unacceptable, however i have no idea what to do. I am on hold for a supervisor currently, and know i am going to get the "we cant help it that united changed their flight time." but that is unanceptable and I feel orbitz should be responsible.

I even think i might have recourse to do an AMEX chargeback, but would rather deal with orbitz. Any suggestions PLEASE. Thanks.
