From my own experiences travelling several times recently from the US to Europe and return,I am surprised and pleased to see how full the aircraft are and not just in economy .I do not think that it just because of upgradees or award flyers as my experience has been that such seats are now released very late and indeed often only on the day of travel (certainly in relation to services to FRA and CDG)</font>
Yes, loads are certainly full in all classes transatlantic on the ORD-LHR route. However, my recent experience on this route is that I've mostly had upgrades clear at the time of ticketing, and the latest I've had to wait (exceptionally) before clearing the waitlist is a week before the flight.
Even when the C cabin is half empty a few days out, it always seems full on the day.
The full pax manifest for C on my flight on Sunday (i.e. not the meal preference chart) had
Op Upgrade marked alongside the status indications of several pax (they were all 1P or 1K) - never saw that before on a manifest.
Forgot to mention before that we had a prison matron on this flight. Frowning, surly, monosyllabic questions never prefaced by a "Would you care for a....?". I decided to go to work on her, thanking her profusely for every act of grudging "service". By the end of the flight
I managed to make her smile. Wonder how long the effect lasted....
