I like your thinking, and I agree...I do the same. I do POINTS + POINTS, unless there is a compelling reason not to. A few years ago, US did an, "Everything counts," promo, where basically all points counted as PQM, so I shifted everything to miles (HHonors, Hertz, etc).

Not only are HHonors points valuable as a spending tool themselves, but I was able to use Coupon Connection and trade some for UA SWU's, which will make a Western US to Europe trip a bit easier to stomach (and still earn US miles).
