There isn't any need to use a two prong adapter, your Bose headset (or other headset of choice) plugs straight into the larger of the two sockets. The second socket is there for BA's standard issue headsets, the smaller socket providing the noise cancelling feed, the larger audio.
I wondered if I was missing something basic. The odd thing is that I virtually never use the AVOD. Either I read or listen to my own stuff or just let the Bose kill most of the ambient noise and I sleep. About the only thing I use the AVOD for is to watch the map, which works like a pill to put me to sleep! I think I know every city we fly over!
