The other thing to consider is distance/time. When flying from IAD it takes longer to get to MUC than to FRA because it's a bit more southern of course. I wonder why you didn't add AMS to your connection options? I realize that there aren't many Star Alliance connections to be made there, but it's a bit shorter of a flight and an equally nice airport.
