Indeed, I'd rule out HH if you want to be near into the ski area.

For example, Rutland is fine if all you want is a view of Killington. But even in summer, it takes a good part of an hour to get up to Killington because it's a winding slow mountain road. And in winter it could take longer (both because of road conditions and possibly more traffic). So while for a one-day trip there (if you're only going to go skiing one day in each area and only for a few hours each day) it might not be so horrible, but if you want to ski multiple days on the same mountain I would think the long commute could get a bit ridiculous.
