You cannot purchase JAL miles, but you can convert your PC, HH, or SPG points to JAL miles. (I don't think Marriott does JAL mile conversion, though I might be wrong.) If you do not have enough points, you can purchase them, as you probably know. But I would not do this myself unless I am really desperate for a few thousand miles, since conversion rates are not so good.

Also, please be reminded that when you issue international award tickets, you will be charged fuel surcharges. For return tickets from Sydney to Tokyo JAL charges US624 right now.
