I agree with SanDiego1K - be grateful it was only an hour and you are safe. ATC delays are not created by United to amuse the Captains or boost their flying hours - there is ordinaurly a very good reason .... like safety.

I too sat for over a HOUR 2 yards from the air bridge until well past midnight this Thursday in a 747 waiting for ATC to let planes get SAFELY off through the smoke. And I am sure not writing off for a mileage credit for that delay when 1000s of folks' homes burning down were the cause of the dealy.
