For the benefit of future searchers... we went to the transfer desk even though we hadn't checked through our luggage, and they issued Air Austral boarding passes there, took our baggage tags and gave us new ones, (asking us what our luggage looked like!) We were passed straight through to departures without having to go through immigration and they picked up our bags and rechecked them for Reunion. Given the length of the immigration queues we were very grateful, although given we had 6 hours to spend there all it meant was more time in the (quite pleasant) PP lounge.
