While Nassau wouldn't necessarily be my first choice, it does meet the OP's criteria. As for the price, $589 is not cheap, but it is well under $1,000.
I guess I assumed that the OP wanted AA flights, since he posted this in the AA forum, so I only looked at AA flights. Cheapest AA flights STL-NAS for those dates are $810.80, not quite $1000 but definitely in the neighborhood. Personally, I'd rather fly to Miami and drive down into the keys than go to NAS, but OP may not share that feeling.
By the way, your $589 figure is without taxes. Add in the taxes, and it will be about $700. And, when I asked Kayak for details, it didn't seem to be really available, what was available was around $730 after taxes. You could get that fare on AA, but only if you wanted to overnight the 26th in Charlotte and continue on the next day, which eats up the savings on the ticket. Otherwise, you could choose between the AA fare I gave and flying other airlines, like a combo of USAir and BahamasAir.
If OP really wants USAir flights, why not post this question in that forum?
