As a 1K, you'd still be among the first to get upgraded to empty seats in F. And instruments could still apply. My main argument is with empty seats in F when the door is closed. I'm not suggesting replacing upgrades from Y or eliminating upgrade instruments.
I have had all but 1 flight out of 10 with CH 9 on in the past month of trips, including some to LHR from IAD.
Yes, 1K would be the first to get upgraded, but I don't care to be upgraded. I'd rather let those that are 1P or 2P upgrade when they can then me always up there. Being in First Domestic is not grand by any means.
Everyone keeps saying how great F is, so you get a cold fruit plate, and a little wider seat, nothing convincing me to envy the seats up there.
Now 3 class plane, different story.
Plenty of times seats go empty in First, and if I wanted to upgrade, I could use miles or points, if not, they go empty. Seats will go empty, and if you want the upgrade, use an instrument for it. If not, be happy with what you paid for in Y.
