32 - - HIDDEN CITIES TICKETING OR POINT BEYOND TICKETING REFERS
33 TO THE BOOKING, SALE OR ISSUANCE OF TICKETS AT FARE/S/
34 FROM AN INITIAL DEPARTURE POINT ON THE TICKET WHICH IS
35 BEFORE THE PASSENGER*S ACTUAL POINT OF ORIGIN OF TRAVEL
36 OR TO A MORE DISTANT POINT/S/ THAN THE PASSENGER*S
37 ACTUAL DESTINATION BEING TRAVELED.
Hidden city and point beyond are indeed interchangeable. Regardless of what you call it, it's against the rules.
The example above of buying two tickets: EWR-LAX-EWR + LAX-HNL-LAX is called end-on-end ticketing. In most cases, this is legal since you're not returning to your point of origin (you're going to a new destination).
In fact, most fare engines will allow you to build the end-on-end journey on one itinerary, but price it with the sum of two fares if it's lower.
