I've booked lots of awards (nearly all Saver awards), domestic and international, in different classes, usually not more than a few months in advance, and pretty often just a few weeks in advance. I've watched how award availability comes and goes over time. You often have to be patient and persistent to succeed.
Okay, so the end of the quotation sort of refutes your argument from the opening of your post. How is booking "pretty often just a few weeks in advance" demonstrating patience or persistence? I think it's more of a demonstration of persistence and patience if the OP attempts to book 330 days out. Perhaps, he should not count on award seats being available, but he's beginning the process, and allowing himself the maximum amount of time to manifest his patience and persistence with searching for a saver award. Your examples simply list desultory times you've happened to be successful in award searching. Methinks the OP is giving himself the best possible chance of securing an award if he allows himself the maximum permitted time to search.
