I think these are very much targeted promos designed by the credit card company to tap into people who are not using this card as their primary one.

I go back and forth generally between my MM card and a PrioryClub card for hotel points. I used Priority Club heavily last year and earlier this year, but I'm good on those points and have swtiched about 90% of my charges back over to the MM card since early this year. On three separate occasions the CC company (Chase) sent me promotions sounding very similar to this one because they know I have switched to another card for my primary purposes.

I have not received any similar promo on the MM card, but I use it heavily and have done so since early this year.
