If you fly domestically and look for best fares, Southwest is the way to go as mentioned. American is a good second choice because of the hub they have there, but if you do any international flying, American is going to take you a lot farther than Southwest can.

And if interested with credit cards, Southwest gives you 1 credit per $1200 spent, so you could earn 16 credits after spending only $19,200 vs. $25,000 compared to the others. You also get 4 credits for signing up to the Southwest card, so you would only need 12 more credits. Again though, Southwest would be ideal for the domestic flyer who likes best prices and doesn't care about upgrades.
