I used 170K HH points for 6 nights at a hotel going for over $600 per night.
It wasn't a bad deal for the equivalent of 85K AA miles plus $25, so a return of over 4 cents per mile.
I am earning at 1.9 cents per RDM on my trip to Florida later this month.
So, trips like these are cost effective.
I am flying to SEA for 0 cents per mile in a few days, since it is a work trip, giving me 2784 RDM.
So, while I don't get for the hours of my free time that I am away from home, at least on the flight I will make FF "money".
