I've never had a problem at airports.

But...
We had just disembarked a cruise at the Port of Miami and were waiting for the rental car shuttle bus so I thought I'd take a picture of the cruise terminal with the ship in the background. I was yelled out by two people in some sort of uniform who screamed that I wasn't allowed to take photos!!!

I use a Canon Ixus 55 and love it.
