I flew AA from LAX to Hawaii where my luggage was "lost" (and never recovered) back in mid-June and have only just received a cheque (check) for US $634.90....Is that right...seems a bit cheap? Aren't they party to the Montreal Convention, and if so shouldn't the compensation be much higher?
What about delayed bags - I was reunited with one a week later - again compensation applies as per Montreal Convention doesn't it?
AA sucks big time...I had to do all the paperwork and document all the items, etc., and I get a tiny fraction of their value - why bother documenting all the details then?? [sigh]
It is very clearly stated on
aa.com: Liability is limited to $3000 per ticketed passenger for travel on or after February 28, 2007
It is an unfortunate reality that when luggage is lost, some people are not honest about the contents. As a result one rarely receives the full value of the lost items. The only way to insure full value (or at least maximum value) is to make an itemized list the contents prior to checking the bag and/or take photographs of the contents.
In addition to pursuing this via travel insurance, credit cards also often provide additional coverage. If you paid for your ticket w/a credit card, call your provided and inquire about this option.
The issue of cancellations/downgrades, etc.. is separate and should be dealt with by contact AA Customer Service.
