You're lucky.. the three airlines you have to choose from are all great!

The advantage I can think of for flying NZ is that the NZ1 service from LHR to AKL is a same plane service - ie, no aircraft or gate change to stress out you and your wife!

Transit time in LAX is just 2 hours. While US security measures mean that you can't use the NZ lounge at LAX during transit, there is a transit area to wait in - which includes a seperate area with light refreshments and seating for P and J class pax.
