So the website told me that the goodwill cert only applies to flights that are eligible for the cert (little green star tells you if they are), which I knew & which I checked prior to calling.

Then they said it applied only to base fare but I pointed out that it applied to total before when I used the other cert a month ago, so they backed off that.

Then they said one of the fares wasn't eligible & I pointed out that they both were, so no dice there.

Goodwill cert fares have to be H,Q,V,W.

Then we together plugged in the dates/flights. Without the cert #, the fares for the $213 were VP14NR4W and WE21BNZ - ie, a V & W, both of which are eligible fare codes for the cert, which should bring it to $142.

Then we together plugged in the dates/flights & cert #, and get fare codes of VPE14NR4 & VPE7NR7 - both of which are different than above - and on the return bouncing from a W to a V, even though the W is available (and eligible for cert fare level) & bringing the fare to $232, which brings it to $157.

Then she asked me to fax her the printout of the electronic cert, and that's where we stand. Since the cert is pretty generic, not sure she'll get any more info than I read to her over the phone.

It's more a principle thing at this point; the $15 isn't going to make or break me either way.

But also given that others are encountering the same thing, both on electronic & paper certs, UA needs to sort this out.
