Does this also mean, I wonder, that a trans-Pacific flight will also be upgauged in order to get the equipment over there? Right now only the SFO-NRT and ORD-NRT flights (and perhaps not even all of them) are 747s. One then goes on to NRT-HKG and another to NRT-ICN.

Yep, it looks like LAX-NRT will become 747. This will provide the extra 747 that will fly NRT-TPE.
