Thanks europeflyer and av010... based on your personal experiences I must concede that the website is wrong and that unlimited upgrades are only on domestic flights for AV EXP members. Too bad.

Though Avianca has greatly improved in just a few years and they offer a great product, I just find their FF program uncompetitive. No bonus mileage for elites unless one purchases and flies in J. And 2 upgrade certificates per 10,000 flown miles would require 8 round trips MIA-LIM just to get one upgraded.

They partner with TACA and Delta and both of those airlines give generous mileage bonuses to their elites who fly in coach.

With aerorepublica being part of Onepass, I am surprised that AV has not upgraded their FF program to be somewhat competitive.

But, I will still fly with AV as I find them to be a good airline and the room in coach is great, plus sometimes the prices can't be beat on international itineraries. Just wish I could have had it all, I guess. I'm almost AV Oro, anyway.. might as well take that last flight.
