I got an RT in V-class for about ~750 and put it in H-class for ~940 - My routing is IAD-SEA-NRT-BKK-NRT-LAX (2 day stopover) - IAD. I depart IAD on 12/30 and return the 3rd week of January - When I priced it out online, it too was at least 2400 but for some reason, when I priced it out on AAA's website (just as a curiousity), it priced out to about 800, so I called UA and they got it down to the 750 fare in v-class, but to upgrade, I needed H, so they got it for me at about 940ish...

Try calling them if you haven't already - I bought my tickets a few months back for that time of the year, so that may be why I got it for the price I did, although I still feel it's a little expensive from other fares that I've seen. 2400 is way too expensive!
