A huge slab of MP members reside outside the USA, so other than UA website there appears to have been zero communication about this offer to those members, and we are well into October 15 afternoon here, in NZ and in Asia now.

Folks only have limited vacation time and time off work. Many cheap It'l tickets require minimum stay periods. As all flights need be COMPLETED by December 15, offering details of the promo as EARLY as United could made the best financial sense for UNITED. As folks could then PLAN these extra trips in a timely manner.

Seems like an excellent idea IMO - that has been (or has NOT been!) communicated to the target audience very poorly - indeed mostly not at all. So far.

Lots of EXTRA tickets sold was the main purpose of this clearly. It was IMO not to make elites feel good and warm and fuzzy so much as selling EXTRA tickets - as many as possible in this quiet season.

The details of this would have been formulated and signed off a month or more back at WHQ, allowing for all communications to have been planned in advance.
