The AA flights from Rome leave at around 10:30 am. Therefore, common sense dictates arriving in Rome the night before departure- rather than taking a very early 2 hr train ride from Naples to Rome, then changing to the Leonardo Express for another 1/2 ride to to the airport on the actual day of departure.
Train strikes here are not nearly as difficult as thunderstorms at DFW. The strikes don't cause as many problems, are shorter lived and announced much further in advance. No need to give the OP things to worry about.
