Part of the problem with FAR's and regulation is that where used to people just trusted someone was keeping this safe, now everyone questions everything if it doesn't allow them to do what they want to do when they want to do it.
To echo SWABrian, the FAA rules really are to keep us safe. I know I've tried to share a lot of that here on FT and am always met with "... but what are the chances..." and "Well I've never had that happen so....." or "My friends' friend told me that ......" none of that is the point. The rules exist and are important for various reasons. If you truly want to question the rule that's fine, but don't do it just to try to prove something and please don't do it at the integrity expense of your crew. True: not ALL FA's have the understanding that they SHOULD of FAR's and SWA policies, but that's just the reality of it. Don't take it out on them, they're just doing their jobs to enforce these rules.
