If you're going to Kerala, make sure to do a back-water tour; sunrise and sunset in the paddy fields is quite spectacular. The Malabar House (of Fort Kochi) runs its own boat which is (AFAIR) electric powered, thus more peaceful. If you don't use them, make sure to check out a few boats as there's definite possibility to get houseboat envy unless you choose carefully.
