reason why I'm asking is that looking on expertflyer, they show a lot of YY fares, but for some of these routes, it seems that the YY fares are cheaper than the carrier specific fares.. like HKG-JFK.. F class RT YY fare is HK$128,440, while the CX F class RT fare is HK$163,940... obviously if you have a YY fare ticket and go to CX, they would not accept this ticket and make you pay for the higher fare... so this kind of defeats the whole purpose of IATA full fare tickets, no?
If I remember correctly, specific carriers can request to opt our of YY fares on certain routes where they want to charge more.

If CX has opted out on this route, you cannot use a YY fare on CX.

If CX has not opted out, you can ticket on CX using the YY fare, assuming your itineray meets the rules of the YY fare.

Someone will correct me if I remember wrong...
