I can't believe you've never noticed FAs "hogging" the rear rows of Economy before! It's almost SOP as far as I've experienced. I've seen it on AA, on CO, on TWA...all of them.

FWIW, passengers are free to hog empty rows themselves, if they are available and quick enough. It's just that many FAs are pros at this.
