This is what I just posted in the "flying to HK" thread:
This is slightly off-topic, but maybe it helps a novice like I was.
I have been FO since late last year, and knew I would at least hit GM this year, all discount coach BIS (tough company rules, and that's even being creative in our online booking system to stay on SkyTeam and DL in particular).
We are allowed to fly Biz on flights over 10 hrs. From BNA, the DL/Korea flight to HKG was the cheapest in our system at around $7500. I knew that my trip would draw attention I didn't need, unduly justification for an important trip, etc. So I called our agent, who was creative and was able to book 2 one-ways on China Air with the domestic leg on AA. There was an alternative on Eva. Both were around $4200 total for the business class trip. I felt good about my choice, saving the company money, etc.
I looked online to see who China and Eva were partners with. I went with China because of the Delta partnership. But in my naivete at the time (not having discovered this site), I didn't realize it didn't count as MQM...
But I guess I can still feel good about saving my firm $3K. China Air was pretty decent, upstairs in the 744.
