If you are holding a full fare E-ticket for travel or NRT on NW, yes you can walk over to NH or JL and ask them if they have room and if they are willling to except your ticket. It is up to them if they want to except the ticket at face value as covering all your transport or if they want to charge you a higher fare (applying the value of your ticket first).
But that's what I mean... It seems you just can't buy a ticket on a fare that is valid on all carriers, and not specific to one airline or another.....
reason why I'm asking is that looking on expertflyer, they show a lot of YY fares, but for some of these routes, it seems that the YY fares are cheaper than the carrier specific fares.. like HKG-JFK.. F class RT YY fare is HK$128,440, while the CX F class RT fare is HK$163,940... obviously if you have a YY fare ticket and go to CX, they would not accept this ticket and make you pay for the higher fare... so this kind of defeats the whole purpose of IATA full fare tickets, no?
