I personally find the carry on policy extremely reasonable. There is a perfectly good baggage handling service offered by LH. Why carry on? Is the 15 minute saving at the other end that important? And heavy carry on's in the cabin represent a safety risk in the event of a very heavy landing.

That said, dealing with oversize bags can be handled in all sorts of ways - and there is no excuse for being rude.
