I think you need to cancel and rebook. You can probably call them and get them to split the reservation first. If it's a first class ticket, you can just cancel it on the web, and book another one. If it's coach, it will cost you $75 to cancel. Alternatively, you can do the upgrade and cancel trick, which will make it free (see the FAQ---it's not guaranteed).
