Based on my recent experience attempting the same sort of thing, there is no way in hell you will make it.

You could spend upwards of 90 minutes just at immigration if you are not on an EC passport. The Terminal 1 queue for non-EC nationals stretched all the way out of the immigration area, back through the check-in desks and almost out to the security check area when I passed through Heathrow last month.

Luckily we had 2 1/2 hours between our flights and we just barely made it.

You will not clear Immigration at Terminal 3, If flying to a BMI-UK city you clear it at Connections usually no more than 10 minutes if Non-EEC, if flying BMI to anywhere in Europe you do not even have to Pass through UK immigration. Heathrow although a Zoo is light years better than any USA airport where you have to clear Customs and Immigration, collect Bags, go through 2 lots of additional security, no matter where you are traveling with the exception of Bradley/Bradley at LAX and a few South and Central American flights at MIA and DFW. There is also only one small form to complete when arriving into UK and virtually no Customs Inspections or Stupid Forms. If connecting BMI via LHR to UK Destination Customs in a Honors system at your final UK Domestic Airport of arrival. Please dont throw at me the Terrorist thing, almost Half a Million British civilians have died from bombs, missiles and terrorist attacks in the last 100 years and the number of US Citizens maybe a couple of Thousand. Finally if you think Heathrow is a Zoo try transiting Internationally through Chicago to Montreal, the Immigration [Twice] Customs [Twice], Security up to 3 times if you have Hold Baggage, followed by a one mile walk at the New InterBorder terminal at Dorval and a further wait of up to 2 hours if you arrive around 5pm.
