The "real" world I am afraid to say (i.e. those vast contienents outside the USA ) for has for years managed to tackle very successfully what USA airlines have failed and/or lacked the will to do.

i.e. try to move house in the main cabin and the perfectly acceptable U-Haul USA stuff and crates and golf clubs and refrigerators mostly gets refused at the boarding gate and they make you check it at check-in area, and possibly miss the flight.

An excellent policy I support 105%.

So, yes, in the real world they will quite probably "give you $hit"
