the breakfast was decent at shulas---i also went to cafe du monde (both in the FQ and in the riverside mall) for beignets!
[note...i wasn't thrilled with NOLa either....and the gunshots i heard at 2 am were a little disconcerting-but if i got a good deal , i guess i would give it another shot!--i just had a very weird feeling the whole weekend i was in the city.....]
As mentioned earlier, agree the JW is superior, but have stayed at the FS as well and would have to defend the staff. They were great and the property is very nice. Perhaps you had a poor experience with one person or was everyone "not so nice"?
Would definitely get to Cafe du Monde at any time of day or even more then once a day. Easy to find if you ask for Jackson Square.
Gunshots in NOLA??? Is that a surprise to you? Wouldn't recommend you go back even if you got it free if the "weird feeling" bothered you . The city hasn't changed. You either love the feeling of being there and what the city offers or you stay away.
