I closed a card by phone yesterday. (I typically just write to them via their website.) I told her that I would primarily be using the Citi Platinum AmEx. She tried to apply the credit from the card to be cancelled to the AmEx, but it didn't work. She theorized it was because it was an AmEx. (?!) I figure I'll have the check in a week.
