No evidence of delayed flight

During a rainstorm one morning and prior to a DCA-PHL-BDL set of flights, I called US to confirm. Was told that the DCA-PHL was delayed and that the likelihood of missing my connection was high. Since I had a wedding to attend that late afternoon, I opted to take Amtrak and had the reservation cancelled. Was also told by the agent that the full value of the ticket could be applied to a future itin.

Earlier today, I tried to have the value of the old ticket applied to a new itin. However, US researched the old itin and said the DCA-PHL was never affected and that it flew as scheduled and that all penalty fees would apply.

What are my options? Should I cut my losses or email customer relations and provide them with scanned copies of my Amtrak boarding passes from that morning?
