I never will understand why WN does not allow free standby on earlier flight when the next flight if overbooked and sometimes they have to pay vouchers to those that are "bumped" as well as add to the confusion of an overbooked flight. Let the GA put on free standbys (assuming no paying standbys are there) for the number of overbooked pax on next flight. And let the FA prioritize based on connections, number of flights to final destination, disabled people, etc.
I don't think that is possible. Either you allow standby on previous flights or you don't. How overbooked is this flight and how likely is it that someone will be bumped. These are decisions that no computer can properly make and no GA should have to make. As a GA, you are going to allow me to let 3 passengers standby because the next flights seems to be overbooked by 3, but not the 4th and 5th? I don't think that is a position that any GA should be put into.
