Dude, I'm native Korean too, and even I don't eat perilla leaves or whatever they are. It's just the taste (and partly the smell)-very weird. I just like plain old romaine lettuce better-sweeter, much more crunchy. And it's stiffer so stuff doesn't go falling all over my lap. But then I'm pretty Americanised as far as food goes (i.e. I must be the only Korean person on the planet who, for example, doesn't like kimchi). My sister questions if I'm actually Korean or was adopted.
