I'd first decide where I would use the points. Burning so many points within 12 months will require some planning. Based on where I'd want to use them, I'd check the cost on SPG.com and see what a vacation would cost me. You could probably even do a package deal and convert some to airline points to have a fully paid vacation. Remember you get 25K airline points for every 20K SPG points converted. $2,000 sounds like a good deal to me, if you're ready to spend the points quickly. I would consider buying points at anywhere below $0.02/point as I usually get a lot more value than that out of them.
